2018 ACCP Fall Conference - The Trauma That Surrounds us in the Practice of Correctional Medicine.
10/21/2018 - 10/21/2018

Event Description
This year’s conference will focus on types and manifestations of trauma that we encounter as correctional practitioners. Some of our patients have encountered various traumas as children and adults. How does this affect their behavior behind bars, and how should it inform the care we provide? How do we identify and treat patients who have suffered head trauma? PTSD? What is unique about veterans? For some patients, their trauma is self-induced and starts in custody. What is our current understanding of why and how to treat them? For patients who have suffered other physical traumas or have physical and functional limitations, what is required of us according to the American for Disabilities Act? And lastly, what emotional trauma do our custody colleagues suffer in general or from special circumstances, such as working in Isolation Units or Death Row?
